LATENT SPACE(S)

2025 Runway AI Film Festival Submission - a short film set to Gabriel Ferrandini’s music

"LATENT SPACE(S)" explores the parallels between hidden realms where meaning forms and transforms. It started when my friend Gabriel Ferrandini sent me the first version of his experimental new album, and I immediately knew I wanted to bring it to life through AI visuals.

During research, I kept coming back to the idea of latent spaces - those hidden computational realms where AI processes meaning before it becomes visible. It felt like a perfect parallel to how the music itself worked, moving between emotional states and sonic textures. The AI latent space became an intermediary interpretation layer between the music, its emotional communication, and my understanding of it, highlighting the different models' processing potential.

The film became an exploration of translation and transformation. How does a feeling become sound, sound become image, image become understanding? I used AI as both subject and tool, letting the technology reveal its own processes while responding to Gabriel's emotional journey.

Architecture and color became my anchors as everything else shifted between mathematical precision and emotional resonance. The goal was to make visible those invisible moments of processing - both computational and human - where meaning transforms from one state to another.

It's less about the AI and more about those spaces between states, where translation happens and new understanding emerges.
